- ABOUT THE IMAGES -
Having drawn and painted as a hobby for over 45 years, in 2004 I began incorporating my graphic art into necklaces as a functional--and fun!--way to exhibit my artwork. This gave rise to "jackalart©", which is the collective name I've given to my original drawings used on Jackalope Jewels' pendants.
My imagination provides me with all of my jackalart© images, most of which are inspired by rock formations in which I envision a figure or a scene. A few, however, are my representational interpretations of landscapes I love, and a few are entirely non-objective, spontaneous design-type images. All of my pictures come from the deepest parts of my subconscious soul, but I believe that the subjects of my jackalart© images are universal and timeless. At the same time, I want an image to speak with a specific and intimate voice to its intended wearer; I want the observer to feel a deep, personal response.
In addition, it is my hope that the images and their names will challenge assumptions or provoke thought, amusement, curiosity, or surprise.
With very few exceptions, each jackalart© image is used a maximum of 2 times: once (perhaps) in a silver-framed pendant, and once on an ann*ifact©. On a rare occasion, I will use an image more than twice, but it will be rendered in a different color-scheme. An example of this is my sunwatching drawing, which I have done in a winter solstice version as well as a vernal equinox version. In addition, one particular rock formation may "give me" more than one jackalart© image, and these images may resemble one another but not be identical. All jackalart© is protected by registered U.S. copyrights.
Note: my representational figural work is imaginative/intuitive/surrealist/symbolist in concept and is not intended to portray any actual person/s, living or dead.
